The  upper air flow is now moving from west to east (called Zonal Flow) and will start cooling us down a bit. It will start to turn more from the northwest swinging that cooler air over the mountains producing more mountain snow to lower levels. A frontal system pushed through so we’ll see colder drier air take over and some well deserved sunshine breaks. Here is a look at a frontal system that will move in between late Sunday and Monday increasing the chance of precipitation as it passes, but drying us out to only slight chances of rain behind it early in the week. Mt. Ashland opened today. Hoodoo is opening Friday, and Willamette Pass is still waiting for quite a bit more snow.

An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U”shape in blue arrows) pushed subtropical moisture (see the long shaded area from south west to northeast) into the Pacific Northwest that is coming from Hawaii (called the “Pineapple Express”). That is why our temperatures have stayed well above normal. A frontal system, the last in this series, has brought even more rain with it and now that the cold front has pushed through we’ll see colder drier air take over and some well deserved sunshine. Here is a look at a Frontal system that will move in between late Sunday and Monday. Mt. Ashland says they will open this Thursday. Hoodoo is really close to opening and Willamette Pass is still waiting for quite a bit more snow.

An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U”shape in blue arrows) is still pushing subtropical moisture (see the long shaded area from south west to northeast) into the Pacific Northwest that is coming from Hawaii (called the “Pineapple Express”). That is why our temperatures have stayed well above normal. A frontal system, the last in this series, is bringing even more rain with it. Here is a look at a frontal system that will push in Friday. Mt. Ashland says they will open this Thursday. Hoodoo is really close to opening and Willamette Pass is still waiting for quite a bit more snow.

An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U”shape in blue arrows) is still pushing subtropical moisture into the Pacific Northwest that is coming from Hawaii (called the “Pineapple Express.” That is why our temperatures have stayed well above normal. A frontal system moved through Oregon Saturday sending more waves of rain at us and it is being  followed closely by another one today that pushed in from the southwest. A frontal system will push through between Monday night and Tuesday to keep the parade of storms going. A happy note for skiers, Mt. Ashland says they will open this Thursday. Hoodoo and Willamette Pass are still closed waiting for more snow.
