An upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will stay close by to keep the flow of moisture moving through the Pacific Northwest for another day. A frontal system followed the upper level flow, dropped a lot of rain, and moved past Oregon. The official rain total for Eugene Wednesday was 0.74 inches while my rain gauge showed 1.28 inches of rain and of course more fell today.

An upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will stay close by to keep the flow of moisture moving through the Pacific Northwest. A frontal system fell apart as it moved into Oregon. Another frontal system (shown offshore) will follow the upper level flow and move into Oregon increasing our chances for rain for the next few days.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time since nobody posted the correct answer. What are “Sastrugi?” Here is the correct answer. Sastrugi are ridges of snow formed on a snow field by the action of the wind. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) is starting to move eastward away from us. A weak front will fall apart as it slides into the Pacific Northwest Monday. Speaking of Monday, Autumn officially begins with the Autumnal Equinox at 7:29 PM Monday. Another frontal system looks like it will move through Oregon Wednesday bringing even cooler temperatures and the possibility of much needed rain.
