The upper air flow has  switched more from the northwest cutting off the heavy moisture flow. One last disturbance moved southward away from us and taking the remaining moisture with it and you can see a surface high pressure area moving toward the West Coast. An upper level high pressure ridge (“Arch”shape in the jet stream) will build in over us and that means it will dry out for a while. Remember that, particularly this time of the year, when it’s not raining it is usually fogging.

Here’s my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. Who came up with the “Full Moon” names? Congratulations to Bonnie Williams. Your answer: ”Native North Americans were mostly responsible for the names of the full moons. Most of them reflect some aspect of life as they knew it living closely with nature”. was spot on correct. If you would like to know more about the Full Moon names just go to the The Old Farmer’s Almanac Website. I’ll have another weather weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments”in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

The upper air flow has been bending more from the west (called Zonal flow) and southwest bringing in warmer, but still very moist air into the Pacific Northwest.  Notice the forecast is for the flow to switch more from the northwest cutting off the heavy moisture flow. The enhanced satellite loop over 3 hours shows the moisture that moved  in was from the sub-tropics, otherwise known as the “pineapple express.”  Remember that, particularly this time of the year, when it’s not raining it is usually fogging.
